The largest share of IZA Summer School participants were Ph.D. students. They covered nearly every European country, so that the environment was very international. Depending on the status of their research, most of the Ph.D. students gave a talk about their research output. The subjects of their talks covered a wide range of labor market issues, including macroeconomic analyses of the labor market, empirical investigations of wage differentials, labor supply, fertility, absenteeism and sickness, public employment programs, child labor, and mobility, as well as theoretical models on the harmonization of social standards, the political economy of declining industries, earnings-related unemployment benefits in trade union models and the effects of globalization on wages and employment. A detailed description of the presented papers is out with the scope of this report. We therefore ask you to refer to the respective authors if interested in a paper. The summer school program together with the titles of the presentations is given in the following Section 5. The participants of the summer school together with their E-mail number are listed in Section 6 of this report.
