We are pleased to invite you to attend the 24th Annual Conference of the European Association of Labour Economists, to be held in Bonn, Germany, on 20-22 September 2012.

Hosted by IZA, the 2012 Annual Conference of the European Association of Labour Economists (EALE) will include invited lectures, topic-related invited sessions, parallel sessions and poster sessions. As a special event, the conference will feature the Award Ceremony for the 2012 IZA Prize in Labor Economics. There will, of course, be ample room for informal research collaboration and, not least, some time to enjoy the beautiful Bonn area along the river Rhine.

EALE and IZA wish to thank all contributors for a remarkably large number of registrations. With by now almost 450 registrations the EALE 2012 Conference will rank among the largest in the EALE conferences history.

IZA Contributions to the EALE 2012 Program

In line with IZA's mission to promote policy-oriented research, we will offer two special sessions within the EALE 2012 program.

A first session will be held in German and address the topic of Temporary Agency Work (Friday, 11:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m.). The role of temporary agency work is heavily under debate in many European countries. Unions and politicians are concerned that temporary agency work might substitute regular work and thus weaken the bargaining power of workers. On the other hand, temporary agency work is often considered as a stepping stone into regular employment. The session will address such issues from the perspective of politicians and practitioners.

A second session on "Challenges for the Chinese Labour Market" (Friday, 2:00-3:45 p.m.) will bring together expert scholars to present papers on topical issues in China such as migration, inequality, occupational choices and labour market reforms.

In addition IZA will invite all conference participants to participate in the IZA Prize Ceremony in honor of the 2012 Prize Laureate Richard Blundell. The prestigious IZA Prize is widely regarded as the most important award in labor economics worldwide. Detailed information on the prize, previous winners and the IZA Prize Book Series is available at www.iza.org/prize.
