About the Workshop

Also in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the IZA Economics of Education Program goes on. We are very happy to hold the 6th IZA Workshop on the Economics of Education on September 22 – 24, 2021. As conditions for travelling remain highly uncertain for the reminder of the year, we will hold it online. After last year’s success, we again will replicate as closely as possible a ‘real life’ IZA Economics of Education workshop, with interactive presentations in plenary or parallel sessions, policy discussion and social zoomixing.

We are delighted to announce that the keynote speaker is Caterina Calsamiglia, ICREA Research Professor at IPEG, Barcelona, Spain. In addition to keynote and presentations in plenary or parallel sessions, we will have an invited international policy panel featuring Matthew Kraft (Brown University), Helena Skyt Nielsen (University of Aarhus and IZA), Emily Oster (Brown University) and Birgitta Rabe (University of Essex and IZA) to discuss ways out of the education crisis triggered by school closures during the pandemic.

The conference will have a limited set of full participants, who can actively engage with the speakers. We will allow an unlimited number of researchers to follow the conference via live streaming on YouTube to make a virtue of the necessity for online conferences and to make the fruits of this research endeavor as widely available as possible.

The workshop will be held over three days, September 22 – 24, 2021 in the (European) afternoons to ease participation of both European and international audiences.
