About the Online Workshop:

The COVID-19 pandemic has severely disrupted the delivery of education around the world. This makes the study of education even more important than in normal times. Accordingly, the IZA Economics of Education Program goes on. We are very happy to hold the 5th IZA Workshop on the Economics of Education on September 23 – 25, 2020. While for obvious reasons we will hold it online, we will attempt to replicate as closely as possible a ‘real life’ IZA Economics of Education workshop, with interactive presentations, poster sessions, policy discussion and social zoomixing.

We are delighted to announce that the Keynote Speaker is Professor Susanna Loeb, Director of the Annenberg Institute at Brown University. Previously she was the Barnett Family Professor of Education at Stanford University and the founding director of the Center for Education Policy at Stanford.

IIn addition to Keynote, paper and poster presentations, we will have an invited international Policy Panel to discuss the great issue of this time – how to quantify, understand and redress the grave harm caused by the pandemic on education and skill formation.

The conference will have a limited set of full participants, who can actively engage with the speakers. We will allow an unlimited number of researchers to follow the conference via live streaming on YouTube to make a virtue of the necessity for online conferences and to make the fruits of this research endeavor as widely available as possible.

The workshop will be held over three days, September 23 – 25, 2020 in the (European) afternoons to ease participation of both European and International audiences.

Submissions:

We are seeking the best current papers on education, broadly understood including work on pupils, teachers, schools, and universities.

Please make your submission by using the online application form. Kindly indicate at “Note to Organizers” if you submit for full paper presentation, for poster presentation, or for either.

The deadline for submissions is July 31, 2020. Decisions will be communicated by August 17, 2020.
