Abstract:

In labor market and inequality research more and more researchers realize that the level of the single firm has to be considered for explaining various social and economic phenomena. As a consequence, the stock of micro data sets which include individual and firm related information is steadily growing on the national and international level in recent years. In Germany the available data sets are limited in number and share a common weakness: They provide only a less amount of information on the individual and household level. One way to overcome this flaw is to supplement individual and household surveys with data from establishment surveys. The project "ALLBUS establishment survey" aims to investigate the data quality, identify methodological problems as well as the overall feasibility of such a survey-based LEE data set in Germany. This presentation gives an overview over the methodological steps and findings of the project.
