Abstract:

RePEc is an initiative supported by volunteers that tries to improve the dissemination of research in Economics. This talk will demonstrate how an initiative with extremely limited means can still make a significant impact once incentives among researchers, publishers, editors and libraries are properly exploited. In particular, RePEc has been able to democratize massively the access to research in Economics, both for readers and for authors, and push open access and self-archiving. Simultaneously, all major commercial publishers seek to participate in the project. The talk will also show how the RePEc approach is currently explored in other fields than Economics.
