Abstract:

Web surveys have advantages and drawbacks. Among their advantages, Web surveys can fulfill the nowadays Social Scientists' need for quick access to internationally comparable data. The Wage Indicator (WI) is a labor oriented continuous voluntary web survey and a good example of how online surveys can take advance of the internet: A homogeneous questionnaire is administered online in 65 countries. The WI indicator is also a great opportunity to study web surveys drawbacks from an international point of view. The seminar shows how survey methodology is implemented to the WI dataset in order to overcome web surveys drawbacks and increase its data quality.
The seminar will be divided into three sections. The first section will focus on methodological underpinnings and analyses implemented so far to the Wage Indicator. It also presents future methodological research lines. The second section shows some examples of content research done using the Wage Indicator data set. A third section focus in the WI face to face surveys in Low-Income Countries and Lower-Middle-Income countries
