Abstract:

In Labor Economics, "human capital" is usually identified with education. Higher education leads to higher income, and higher incomes in turn are associated with better educated offspring leading to intergenerational transmission of Economic status. This paper asks whether the health of children is a mechanism that could underlie intergenerational transmission. I explore the evidence regarding links between parental status and child health, and between child health and future attainments, and make suggestions for further work at this intersection of health economics and labor economics.
