About the Workshop |
The ongoing Great Recession has confronted policy makers with new challenges in labor markets around the world. A wide range of policies have been adopted, but their effects remain unclear. This calls for urgent attention of academics, who can shed light on policy successes and failures from a national or comparative perspective.
The IZA Journal of Labor Policy and the IZA Journal of European Labor Studies join forces to tackle this gap at a Workshop on Labor Market Reforms during the Great Recession: Challenges and Opportunities.
The main purpose of this workshop is to
- Extend and deepen our knowledge about labor policy in critical times
- Attract best research papers about this topic to the two IZA Journals
- Exchange research ideas about these topical issues
The highlight of the meeting will be keynote lectures by Giuseppe Bertola (EDHEC Business School) and
Coen Teulings (University of Amsterdam, CPB and IZA)
Topics of interest include but are not limited to evaluation of European and international experience with policy approaches to:
1) labor market policy and reform
2) youth unemployment
3) inequality and poverty
4) informality
5) gender and family issues
6) education.
Both single country and cross-country studies are welcome.
In order to disseminate the research presented in the workshop, and considering their strong interest in the labor market and policy issues related to labor policy reaction to the Great recession, the editors of the
IZA Journal of Labor Policy and the
IZA Journal of European Labor Studies have decided to devote forthcoming articles to the topics listed above. A requirement for participating in the workshop is that presenters submit their paper for potential publication in either journal. The manuscript will undergo the standard editorial procedures of the journal.
Two special issues, one in each of the participating IZA Journals, will emerge from this initiative.
The program is scheduled to start on Thursday, October 10 at noon, which allows arrival in the morning, and will end on Friday afternoon by 3 p.m.
Those authors who are invited are expected to participate in the entire workshop.
